Back To Reality

For the first time in my 9 year career with my employer, I was fortunate in 2008 that I had enough vacation time left to take a substantial amount of time off around Christmas and New Years. It was thoroughly enjoyable and getting up to an alarm clock this morning really bit a big one. Also having a very hard time focusing my ADD brain on work. Hence, I am posting to my blog on the clock.

Christmas this year was very nice despite the running around, which I truly hate. Yes, call me a grinch, but I would love to spend Christmas at my house and have people travel to me. Selfish, I know. I got loads of wonderful loot this year. Including, but not limited to: a new Relic watch, ring holder for my new fangled bling, g.c. for mani/pedi, g.c. for cooksware so I can take some cooking classes, tix to Transiberian Orchestra (to be discussed further in this post), a snuggie, some angel paraphanalia to add to my collection, a beeee-a-utiful snow globe which shall remain displayed year round that has our engagement date and names engraved on it, and a new crockpot.

Sunday (yesterday) was a "Mandy Day" as Don would call it. All girls deserve that don't they? :) So...yesterday we went to an indoor gun range and shot guns for a while, which I always enjoy. Every time we go I am more interested in getting a carry/conceal permit, however I HATE shooting pistols and that is what you have to qualify with. I'm more a rifle girl. Who knew? After shooting we can a couple of errands and THENNNNNNN.....went to see the Transiberian Orchestra! That was one of the most incredible, intense, interesting concerts I have ever had the priviledge of being at. TRULY amazing and words do it no justice. If you ever have an opportunity to be a part of it, make the time. You will not regret it.

So back to the dulldrums of normalcy. Bah hum bug. Happy New Year.

Ugly cry of the century

Yesterday, after long anticipation, Don and I went to see Marley & Me. Mind you, we had listened to the author narrate the book on CD on a road trip we made early 2007 and I knew what to expect. So on the way out the door, I pulled 3 kleenex out of the box and off we went. I had a half day vacation yesterday, and he is off until Jan 5, so we went to a matinee. The theatre was PACKED at 2pm! Jennifer Aniston & Owen Wilson did a great job playing who they did. They really brought those characters to life for me. Even though I think Owen Wilson needs a nose job. Really badly. Who doesn't think that?!?! Surely the guy knows his nose looks like a penis. I digress. Without giving the movie details away, I will just say this. I laughed and cried over and over again. If you are one of those people who is worried about your image and crying in a movie theatre, this movie is NOT for you. Thanks to Oprah, I also now call it "The Ugly Cry". For those of you who do not know what that is, it is quite simple. It means you have cried so hard that your face is distorted and ugly afterwards. When I got home, swollen eyes & nose, I picked my little poopie doopie up and hugged and kissed on her until she couldn't stand it anymore. Fur all over my coat, I did not care. Heck, I didn't even clean it off and walked in to work today like it was a badge of honor. I am a dog owner :-)

Oh, and by the way, take more than 3 kleenex.

Closest Thing To A Grandkid

Luca. aka Lukie Pookie. aka Poopie Doopie. aka Pooper.
My poor parents. Here I am, almost *choke* 36 in a few short months, and the only grandchild I have given my parents is my 1.5 year old pooch Luca. I am thankful she's a good dog and not too crazy for them to love her as much as I do. They take care of her when I/we go out of town, and she shows her enthusiasm when they visit by running circles around the entire house until she can barely breath anymore.
If my eggs aren't already hard boiled by now, maybe one of these days I will produce a human grandchild for them, but until that time, the Pooper will have to suffice :-)

Busted

While driving home from Thanksgiving festivities at my Aunt & Uncle's house in Springfield a few weeks ago, I guess I "REALLY" ran a red light. Not noticing the tall white cameras at the intersection, I just flew on through. Yesterday, after being re-routed from my previous address, I received my Notice of Traffic Violation. There it is, plain as the colorful pictures of my violation that they provided. $100 because I ran a red light. You have got to be kidding me. And the even more exciting part of this story, is you can actually view the video of your violation online!

Mind you, I have not had any type of driving violation in at least 10 years. There goes my perfect driving record!

Thanks City of Springfield!

Lazy Sunday

Don snapped this picture with his phone yesterday while Luca and I took a little nap. Too cute not to share.
